Hurricane Iota made landfall yesterday evening as a CAT-4 storm -- the strongest hurricane of this unbelievable year -- and is now pummeling Honduras with immense amounts of rain and flooding.
The areas we are serving already had flooding over the rooftops of buildings and now are facing another 10-20 inches of rain with the possibility of 30 inches in some areas.
This will be catastrophic. The situation was dire before Iota hit. Mercy Chefs already has two water purification units in production and we've helped provide over 20,000 meals so far. Many on the receiving end of your generosity said that they did not know where their next meal would come from. Plus, the water plant has been offline for two weeks. As a result, people have been drinking, bathing and cleaning clothes in the muddy creeks. All this before Iota hit.
I'm expecting the need will be even more desperate in the coming days. We helped stockpile supplies so that the most urgent needs can be met as soon as the storm passes. But I must be ready to do much more.
Will you help?
The situation in Honduras already was tragic. Now with this second storm, the death toll and destruction could be unimaginable. I want to do more, but I need help from friends like you. Go here to make your tax-deductible gift and help us meet this urgent need:
Just $50 can help feed FIVE FAMILIES of four for FIVE DAYS; $100 helps us feed TEN FAMILIES for five days.
Every gift will make a difference.
I'll share more as soon as we have details.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
P.S. The photos I'm sharing are from BEFORE this new storm hit. Honduras was already devastated. That's why every gift will make a difference. We've already helped provide over 20,000 meals and thousands of gallons of drinking water, but the need could be exponentially more after this second storm passes. Please prayerfully consider how you can help, and then go here to make your tax-deductible gift:
P.P.S. As I noted, we have two water purification units in production in Honduras, but we need more! It's a major cost. Adding two more would cost at least $20,000 -- on top of the funds we need to help provide thousands more meals. If the Lord has blessed you financially and you want to help with this specific need, please consider doing so today! If you prefer to donate by check, go here for mailing instructions.
