Last week, we finished up our final "Summer Huddle" outreach in Kentucky by teaming up with pro basketball player Reed Sheppard.
As part of our initiative to keep children well-fed in the summer, we provided 500 kids with backpacks full of nutritional snacks and school supplies at Reed's home church. Reed's mom ran her own backpack and feeding program for 16 years, so it seemed only right to partner with Reed, his mom, and their church to bless this community.
+ + Back to school...
In all, Mercy Chefs provided over 180,000 meals this summer to children through special programs and our community kitchen outreaches.
Now, as kids head back to school, we are continuing to help meet the needs of hurting kids. We just held a back-to-school event for kids in Virginia. Also, our community kitchens are gearing up to provide thousands of meals monthly to children and families in need.
For example, our Nashville community kitchen just launched its after-school feeding program, providing dinner to about 250 students every day.
Meeting practical needs here at home is a critical component of what Mercy Chefs does each and every month.
Sadly, food insecurity impacts millions of kids here at home. Far too many children go to bed hungry. Thanks to you, we are helping thousands of children every month.
I hope you will partner with us as the school year starts and we continue to help hurting kids.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
P.S. Just $35 can help sponsor 10 hot meals for children this fall here at home. Perhaps you can donate $70 and help sponsor 20 meals. Go here to help:
