The need here in eastern Kentucky is still great. Mercy Chefs is providing both lunch and dinner TODAY and we need your help! Please go here to help sponsor meals for flood victims we'll be serving this afternoon and evening, and see below for an inside look at the chaos these disasters cause. --Gary

We've heard so many stories of the chaos and confusion caused by the flooding. One woman who received a Mercy Chefs meal wept as she shared how she spent the entire night of the flood wondering if her family had survived.

When the rains started, her husband left their home to get her elderly parents, but phone service was cut off so she spent a harrowing night unsure of her family's fate. Thankfully, they were safe but they couldn't make it back to their home because a creek had flooded and blocked the road.

+ + Grandma and baby almost swept away...

We served a family and their neighbors who were just glad to be alive. One woman told us she was carrying her grandchild in her arms, trying to get to a vehicle, when she lost her footing in the floodwaters. Just then, a rush of current hit her and began sweeping her away when her son grabbed her and saved both her and her infant grandchild.

For many, the chaos and confusion will continue for weeks and months. NBC News is reporting that some people here are refusing to leave their homes that have been damaged or destroyed in the flooding for fear of looters. So they stay -- perhaps without power, water, adequate shelter, or food.

These are the people Mercy Chefs is helping right now -- flood victims who are grieving or struggling to figure out where to start on the long road to recovery.

Today, our team is back on site preparing both lunch and dinner for flood victims. Will you partner with Mercy Chefs as we serve lunch and dinner and reach thousands of flood victims, volunteers and emergency workers here in eastern Kentucky? Go here to help sponsor 10, 20, 50, 100 or more meals for flood victims:

Each meal you are helping to sponsor carries with it both practical relief and tangible hope. Practical relief for those who have been displaced by the flooding and simply need a dependable meal. And hope because someone cares enough to make sure they have excellent food when everything in their world seems to be falling apart.

Thank you for your prayers for the people here. And thank you for your financial support.

God bless,

Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
