Hurricane Dorian

Bahamas devastated by major Cat Five strike! Help Mercy Chefs meet a critical need and bring fresh drinking water to storm victims...

Hurricane Dorian bombarded the Bahamas for days. Early reports indicate the damage is "catastrophic" in the Bahamas with an estimated 13,000 homes damaged or destroyed. There is a great fear that multiple fatalities have occurred. We may not know the full scope of the destruction for days, but one of the most critical needs will be drinking water.

Mercy Chefs --Grassfire's disaster relief partner -- is mobilizing to bring two 300 gallon-per-hour water purifications units to the Bahamas, These purification units cost $13,000 each and can provide hundreds of thousands of gallons of drinking water to victims. Mercy Chefs also wants to send 500 water purification straws ($20/straw) to help bring drinkable water to people who are beyond the reach of the large units.

Mercy Chefs needs $40,000 right away to get the water purification efforts launched and help bring a stable supply of drinking water to the Bahamas in the aftermath of what may be the most destructive storm ever to hit that region.
