HELENE UPDATE FROM FLORIDA
Go here to sponsor hot meals now.
Hurricane Helene has caused widespread devastation across the Southeast. As of this morning, more than 3 million customers (well over 6 million people) are still without power.
The wind damage and flooding in coastal Florida along with the inland flooding will make this one of the most tragic and expensive natural disasters in recent history. The death toll stands at 44 and will likely continue to climb.
+ + Meeting critical needs this weekend
I'm with our Mercy Chefs team here in Florida serving the Big Bend region which was absolutely devastated.
Today, from our base of operations in Newberry, our team will be delivering meals into several of the hardest-hit coastal communities including Crystal River, Steinhatchee and Perry. These towns were absolutely devastated by both the 140 MPH winds and massive flooding. In some areas, 90 percent of the homes were damaged or destroyed.
Our team is already hard at work preparing lunch and then we will immediately begin dinner preparations.
If there was ever a time that we need the prayers and support of EVERY Mercy Chefs partner, this is it!
Can you help Mercy Chefs provide chef-quality, nutritious, hot meals to Helene victims -- many of whom have suffered through three hurricanes in the past year?
I'm heartbroken for the people here. But thanks to friends like you, Mercy Chefs can be on the frontlines of this disaster, extending love and support in the form of hot meals made possible by friends across the country.
Please continue to pray. And help as you can.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
