A significant shift has taken place in recent weeks that makes our relief efforts inside Ukraine even more critical.
When the war started, the flow of traffic at Ukraine's western borders was almost all in one direction -- out of the country. In all, there have been over 9.5 million border crossings out of Ukraine since the war started.
+ + Ukrainians are coming back, but to what?
Today, traffic flows both ways at border crossings as millions of Ukrainians are deciding to return home even though Russia's war of terror continues night after night. Officials now say there have been 3.5 million border crossings back into the country as Ukrainians try to take back what has been stolen from their lives by this war.
That means there are MILLIONS more Ukrainians in the country today than just a few months ago. In addition to those returning, there are an estimated 6.2 million Ukrainians who have been displaced within Ukraine -- forced to move from frontline hotspots to other areas of the country. As a result, right now within Ukraine, there are millions of people who are currently displaced or have recently returned to communities that may not be able to support them.
+ + Five months in and we're still feeding thousands every day
Today, Mercy Chefs is almost exactly five months into our deployment to this war-torn region and it is quite possible that the need for our relief efforts is every bit as important as when we first arrived. When I initially departed for the Ukraine-Romania border, I told you I was going to Ukraine because it's what I do. I feed people. Today, almost five months later, we're still just feeding people.
This week, Mercy Chefs and our relief partners will deliver another 100,000 pounds of food and supplies to refugees, orphanages and those deep inside Ukraine who need help.
But to continue to provide relief day after day, I need your help!
If you still believe in Mercy Chefs' five-month-long mission to bring relief to the Ukrainian people, will you stand with me this week as we deliver another 100,000 pounds of food and supplies? Go here to help sponsor 10, 20, 50 or even 100 Ukrainians to receive help this week:
I never imagined that Mercy Chefs and our partners would deliver in excess of 2.7 million pounds of food and vital resources to Ukrainians in need. I want to continue this mission -- to feed the people of Ukraine who are in need -- as long as it takes.
But every pound of food, and every meal we provide, depends on the generosity of friends like you.
Thank you for your faithfulness and for your prayers on behalf of the people of Ukraine.
And thanks in advance for your help as we get ready to embark on our sixth month of relief for the Ukrainian people.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
