We are DEPLOYING for Hurricane Fiona relief. Go here to help sponsor meals.
I've been in contact with our close friends and partners in Puerto Rico where the full force of Hurricane Fionahas left the entire island in crisis.
Hurricane Fiona dumped more than two feet of rain on Puerto Rico and caused a complete power outage for more than 3 million residents across the island territory. As of this morning, 90% of the island is still without power and officials are saying it could take days to restore power.
+ + Damages "catastrophic"
Puerto Rico's Governor Pedro Pierluisi said "the damages we are seeing are catastrophic." Roads and bridges have been washed out and there are reports of massive landslides.
Help is needed for this island that has been hit hard in recent years by natural disasters. That's why Mercy Chefs is immediately deploying to help bring relief to Puerto Rico.
+ + Mercy Chefs is deploying!
Ann and I will be leaving in the morning for Puerto Rico, with more team members coming throughout the week. Mercy Chefs has an established history of providing relief in Puerto Rico during disasters. As a result, we know the "lay of the land" and have partners and contacts on the ground who can help expedite getting relief to those in most urgent need.
In some ways, Puerto Rico has never fully recovered from Hurricane Maria which decimated the power grid. The system has remained fragile, and this latest disaster is a huge setback for the entire island.
Again, effectively the entire island is without power. The weak infrastructure just got devastated once again. The people need our help!
Please pray, and help sponsor 10, 20, 50, 100 or more meals today if possible.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
P.S. Tomorrow marks exactly five years since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. It's happening again. Please help:
