Our team arrived yesterday to open arms from partners we had worked with during prior outreaches.

The need in these hard-hit communities is great. Many people were already at risk and in poverty before COVID. In the past few months, the area has been ravaged by the economic fallout from the COVID crisis. Unemployment is rampant.

Then, the hurricane hit -- dropping 17 inches of rain in four hours. The flooding just multiplied the suffering and complicated the issue of local communities bearing the brunt of responding to issues created by the ongoing border catastrophe.

These communities in the Rio Grande River are urgently in need of help.
+ + Serving first meals TODAY!

The core of our team arrived last night -- our co-founder, volunteer coordinator and four chefs. The initial truckload of groceries was delivered first thing this morning. As I write, our team is preparing and sending out meals to needy families -- the first meals of this deployment. We'll be reaching four communities initially, but as word spreads we always expand our outreach to those who are most struggling.

We're expected to provide thousands of meals today through the weekend. Would you partner with Mercy Chefs right now to help us reach these hurting communities and provide nutritious hot meals to families whose lives have been turned upside down by this hurricane? Go here to help:

Every gift will make a difference. Just $50 will help sponsor 20 meals for disaster victims; $100 will help us serve 40 meals. If you can contribute $200, $500, $1,000 or more, your support will help us reach even more people.

+ + Challenging deployment...

This is already proving to be a challenging deployment. Just arranging transportation (because of COVID and reduced flights) was difficult. Lodging was the next obstacle. The nearest available hotel was more than an hour away. Plus, the support system in these communities has been hard hit by both COVID and now the flooding. I need your help so we can have the resources we need to serve these people most effectively.

Once again, I'm relying on friends like you!

Please ask the Lord how you can help. Then, go here to make your tax-deductible gift.

Thank you so much, and God bless you!

Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chef
