If the past is any guide, then we know what's coming...
...peak disaster season.
It always happens in late summer to early fall -- when both hurricane and wildfire seasons reach their peaks.
This year, we're bracing for the high likelihood of responding to multiple disasters, perhaps often simultaneously. That's because earlier this year, Mercy Chefs expanded our operations to include a full-time mobile kitchen that is stationed on the West Coast. This enables us to respond to disasters in the western states where, sadly, wildfires are becoming more common and more dangerous. 
Already, more than 2.8 million acres have been charred this year and there are nearly 80 active wildfires in 12 states -- and the peak is still to come.
Meanwhile, meteorologists I trust are telling me that we should be prepared for major hurricane activity starting next month.
Here's my challenge...
A significant portion of the cost of every Mercy Chefs disaster response is incurred before we ever deploy. Those costs include reconditioning our equipment, purchasing new equipment, and then buying the food for the first week or so of the deployment. All these expenses must be met before we ever start rolling our mobile kitchens in response to a hurricane or wildfire.
On top of all this, the cost of groceries has increased dramatically in the past year. 
This increase cost is a bit daunting as we face the expanded potential for disaster response.
As we get ready for peak disaster season, I'm asking friends like you to help us by effectively pre-sponsoring the first 10,000 meals we'll be serving. That means we need to raise $35,000 before our first deployment during this peak season.
Your gift today will be such a blessing. The costs we must incur even before we deploy can be a bit intimidating. In a real way, your gift before we deploy is worth two or three times to this ministry because of these pre-deployment expenses.
This year -- with mobile kitchens now stationed from coast-to-coast -- 
I'm expecting that our response during peak disaster season could easily exceed what we've done in the past few years. But to meet the need, I'll need help.
