Miraculously, two more people were rescued from the rubble earlier today more than 200 hours after the earthquakes struck... a 45-year-old woman and a 77-year-old woman. These miraculous rescues come as the death toll now exceeds 40,000 and desperate conditions have set in for thousands in the earthquake zone.
+ + "Traumatized population"
A WHO representative in Turkey is warning of a crisis of a "traumatized population" in the aftermath of the quakes as "people only now start realizing what happened to them."
Our relief operation in Turkey has already produced thousands of hot meals. Our chefs and deployment team are working with our local partners to increase their capacity to cook in high volume under difficult conditions while we provide meals and grocery distribution at five locations.
Yesterday, I asked for 1,000 friends to step forward and help Mercy Chefs provide relief to earthquake victims who are facing the full trauma of this disaster. As of this morning, we are more than half way to that goal, but we still need hundreds of concerned friends to step forward.
Can you help today? Go here to help sponsor 10, 20, 50 or even 100 meals for earthquake victims:
This is now the deadliest natural disaster in the history of the nation of Turkey. 40,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed. Many here are afraid to return to their homes for fear the structures have been weakened and will collapse.
The people are still gripped with mourning from the immense loss of life and fear is EVERYWHERE.
Please help as you can. And pray for the people here.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
P.S. Again, I'm looking for 1,000 people to help our earthquake relief in the next 24 hours. We're half way to that goal. Please help:
