Thursday Report from Romanian border of Ukraine:
First of all, thank you so much to every Mercy Chefs friend who has given generously to help our Ukraine relief efforts. You are making it possible for Mercy Chefs to reach tens of thousands of people -- both refugees fleeing Ukraine and those deep inside the country in cities and towns at the epicenter of the fighting.
+ + Orphans inside Ukraine need our help...
Today, we are headed back into Ukraine to take part in Mercy Chefs' deliveries,including a special mission to bring supplies to 95 orphans inside the country who have been isolated and without help. There are so many devastating and painful aspects of this horrible war. The impact on the children is just crushing.
As we've noted, simple necessities like baby formula and diapers are almost impossible to find. Mercy Chefs just distributed 14 pallets of formula inside Ukraine. As I write, my team is working on gathering supplies of diapers and formula in America for air shipment to Romania and then delivery inside Ukraine.
Through yesterday, Mercy Chefs and our partners had delivered 612,000 pounds of food into Ukraine -- and our warehouse is already full again for distributions in the coming days. We are also assisting the groups who are working at the border to house and care for the refugees. Our warehouse has become one of the key supply depots to support the refugees.
We are doing everything we can to meet the urgent needs here, but every day the needs seem to grow! Simply put, we need help from thousands of friends today so we can feed and meet the practical needs of tens of thousands who are caught in the midst of this war.
And please keep praying for the people of Ukraine, as well as our team. Every day, we are faced with very dangerous situations.
The door remains open to get supplies deep into Ukraine, but our team faces the daily possibility of encounters with the Russian military. One of the men we are working with (pictured here on right) just shared with me how the Russian military forced him out of his vehicle and threw him to the ground. Fortunately, he was able to make it back to safety.
