There have been so many heart-wrenching moments taking place here in Ukraine...
Seeing mothers and grandmothers walking to the border with infants and children, unsure of what may lay ahead and just hoping for a safe place to sleep and a good meal....
Visiting an orphanage inside Ukraine that also became a safe haven for hundreds who were fleeing the central war zone, and singing "Happy Birthday" to one of the children...
Loading up truck after truck full of food and vital essentials, knowing that what we are putting on these trucks may literally save the lives of those who are facing daily bombings from the Russian military...
+ + We were shocked when THIS made the kids cry...
Our team was quite surprised by what took place while making a delivery in Kharkiv, one of the hardest hit cities that has been at the center of the war zone. Many of the residents of Kharkiv have resorted to living in basements and subway stations in hopes of escaping the endless bombing runs. The city is very much in ruins. Hundreds of buildings have been destroyed.
On this particular delivery, we were reaching parents with children who had not ventured above ground in three weeks. Whenever possible, we include fresh fruit with our deliveries. This time, we were distributing oranges to the families. As our team handed out oranges to the children, the kids would start crying.
It was the highlight of those children's week... getting to eat an orange.
Today through this weekend, we'll help reach tens of thousands of Ukrainians who are suffering as this war drags into the second month. Amazingly, a window of opportunity remains open for Mercy Chefs to help Ukrainians TODAY! But I need your help. Will you help sponsor meals for suffering Ukrainians THIS WEEKEND while we continue other vital efforts? Go here:
Finally, please continue to pray for this war to end. Pray for those who are suffering. And pray for Mercy Chefs and our partners as we work to reach the most people possible while this window of opportunity remains open.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
