When our team delivers meals into these hard-hit communities today, we will see people sitting on their front porches, staring at homes full of mud. Sadly, many are still in shock. The amount of loss must feel overwhelming. And it shows on their faces.
It breaks my heart every time I look into the eyes of a disaster victim who is still overwhelmed by the tragedy that just ran through their lives. There is an unmistakable look of hurt, pain, and loss. Many faces carry a blank stare as if they are unable to gaze into a very uncertain future.
Today, Mercy Chefs will serve 2,500 to 3,000 meals to flood victims across eastern Kentucky. That means today through this weekend, I need your help to provide 7,500 to 9,000 or more meals.
There is great fatigue setting in here. The people are weary. Many are still trying to get the mud out of their homes.
Some don't have power. Others can't drink the water. And every day seems to bring a new threat of rain that has these communities on pins and needles.
Thanks to friends like you, Mercy Chefs is here. We're providing chef-prepared, high-quality meals to folks whose lives were turned upside down by massive flooding.
