Our team met a family that was sorting through what little remained of their home. They were using plastic storage crates to salvage whatever they could.
This is why Mercy Chefs exists -- to stand on the very front lines of disaster and serve hot meals to folks who often are literally picking up the pieces of their lives.
Yesterday for dinner, we served grilled bone-in pork chops with a mushroom herb cream sauce, green beans with roasted red peppers and feta, cheddar-chive mashed potatoes, freshly sliced cantaloupe, and a breadstick. It was the kind of meal you would get at a nice restaurant. Disaster victims and volunteers simply can't believe it when we hand them an excellent, chef-prepared meal. It lifts their spirits and helps them find the strength to fight another day.
Today and all weekend, our team is back to work preparing meals for families like this, along with emergency workers and volunteers who are helping the town of Fultondale begin the long recovery process. We could use your help! Please go here to help us provide hot meals as we respond in Alabama and continue other vital efforts. And click here for more details from our previous update.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
P.S. As I noted to you yesterday, we have mobilized a second kitchen to Fultondale. Alabama emergency authorities have asked Mercy Chefs to take the lead in food delivery for this response. I need the help of every Mercy Chefs friend and partner so we can meet the needs here. Thanks in advance.
