When I looked at their house, I couldn't believe they survived...
We were on Grand Bahama Island meeting some of the folks who had somehow managed to escape with their lives after Hurricane Dorian had bombarded their island with 200+ MPH winds for days.
This family -- seven people in all -- had just moved into their house a year earlier. But as the storm hit, the water rose so high that they were forced into their attic where they were trapped... for three days and two nights!
Things got so desperate that they managed to contact loved ones and told them they weren't going to survive the storm.
Somehow, by God's grace, they survived. But now, like thousands of other families, they face a long road to recovery and a very difficult holiday season.
Later this month, I'll be back on Grand Bahama Island with our Mercy Chefs team for an entire week providing hot meals in the days leading up to Christmas. I'm asking you to help make this and other Mercy Chefs outreaches this month the best ever!
As I noted earlier today, we've set a goal of fully funding at least 2,500 of the holiday meals we'll be serving between now and Christmas.
As of last check, we were still far from reaching our goal. If you haven't done so already, will you help us meet our Giving Tuesday goal of fully funding 2,500 of our holiday meals? As we stood there at what remains of their home, we formed a circle and prayed. I knew then that families like this would need help for months to come as they navigate the long road to recovery.
The next phase of our support for the devastated islands of the Bahamas comes in just a few weeks.
Will you help us reach our Giving Tuesday goal? Go here to sponsor 10 ($50), 20 ($100), 40 ($200), or even 200 meals ($1,000).
Thanks in advance, and God bless!
