I've seen more disasters than I care to count. Each time, the devastation can feel overwhelming. What happened in Mayfield is beyond words.
As I write, we're providing hot meals around the clock to rescue workers who are searching through the devastation at the candle factory where more than 100 employees were working when this massive tornado struck. Our team will be up most of the night to support the workers at midnight and again early in the morning for breakfast.
All around the factory, you can see the tornado's destruction. Home after home shredded by the winds, often beyond recognition. A family's lifelong belongings strewn in the yard or piled by the street for trash disposal. And to think this all happened two weeks before Christmas. It's heartbreaking.
As I noted earlier today, we're working with the police to provide hot meals to homeowners who refuse to leave their homes -- even though their roofs may be half blown away and their houses may have lost a wall or two. 
People weep when we hand them a hot meal.
It's as if a hot, chef-prepared meal reawakens them to even the possibility that there will be life after this disaster... That the comfort of home-cooked meals will return... That their homes will be rebuilt... That somebody cares.
Our Mercy Chefs team is working through the night and then we'll start again tomorrow to help meet the need. Please note that every meal we serve depends on the faithful partnership of friends like you.

This is a challenging week for our team. This deployment comes in the midst of some of our busiest holiday outreaches. 
We had just finished a major distribution to flood victims in Tennessee and now we have a full Mercy Chefs team headed to Louisiana this coming weekend to serve 8,000+ Christmas dinners to hurricane victims. But this is why I founded Mercy Chefs -- to feed people "body and soul" in the midst of disaster and hardship wherever it strikes.
Most importantly, pray for those who are suffering. And ask the Lord to maximize our efforts to serve the people here.
