There are no "small" tornadoes when the winds rip the roof off your home...

That's what we're seeing here in Virginia Beach. No matter how many times I see tornado damage, it's still difficult to comprehend the force of winds that can decimate entire structures and devastate homes.

Here in Virginia Beach, we're grateful that no lives were lost. But for the more than 100 families impacted, their lives have suddenly changed course. Now, they face the reality of damaged or destroyed homes and a long path to just getting back to where they were before the tornado struck.

Today, our mobile kitchen is on site along with our chef team and they are hard at work providing meals for families and the workers who are helping to start the rebuild. Tomorrow, we'll add breakfast. I'm expecting a large increase in meals this weekend.

Can you help us serve this community -- the latest to get hit by a tornado this Spring? Your gift of $50 will help us feed about 14 people; $100 helps provide meals for 28 people. Go here to sponsor hot meals we're serving today for tornado victims:

Yesterday, our team went out into the devastated neighborhoods passing out hot meals to those who have been working long hours ever since the tornado struck to pull trees off of houses, begin to rebuild and just clean up the debris. Their faces lit up as we handed them hot, chef-quality meals. Many told us they had been living off of junk food since the storm hit. Some asked for extra meals, which of course we provided.

Every tornado is devastating for those in its path. That's why every time we respond to disaster, we know the meals you are helping to provide are a very real and very tangible lifeline of hope and support.

Thank you for making it possible for Mercy Chefs to feed body and soul.
