As you may have heard, Hurricane Eta struck Central America as a CAT-4 storm and then dumped 40 inches of rain on parts of Honduras causing immense flooding. The floodwaters have gone over the rooftops. I just received a video from our contact in Honduras that shows dozens upon dozens of people trapped on the roofs of homes and buildings. Go here to see.
This is tragic. Already, 57 people have died and the rains continue.
As I write, Mercy Chefs is actively helping to bring relief to the people of Honduras who have been so devastated by this storm. Our contacts in Puerto Rico with whom we worked so closely in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria were previously missionaries in Honduras. They have contacts with pastors and churches in the hard hit regions and are on their way to Honduras to coordinate relief efforts.
We have partnered with a local church and are funding efforts to provide meals. The church has a kitchen and can prepare meals to be taken into the community. Our Puerto Rico partners will fly to Honduras as soon as the airport re-opens.
Thousands upon thousands are in desperate need. Once again, the Lord is opening a door for Mercy Chefs to help. Would you prayerfully consider making a special gift to Mercy Chefs this weekend as we begin relief efforts for the people of Honduras who have been so devastated by this hurricane? Go here to make your gift:
To make matters worse, Eta is continuing to churn in the Caribbean and is now expected to strengthen and possibly bring flooding to Florida.
2020 just won't stop!
I want to answer the call for help in Honduras. Our key contacts are on the way. I want to let them know that thousands of friends are partnering with us to bring relief to the people of Honduras.
Thanks in advance, and God bless
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
P.S. The people in these photos are on the ROOFTOPS of buildings! As the water recedes, clean, drinkable water is the immediate, urgent need. Please help Mercy Chefs brief relief.
