Tuesday Midday in Transit to Puerto Rico:
Ann and I and other members of our Mercy Chefs team are in transit today to Puerto Rico, where officials are just beginning to assess the amount of devastation caused by Hurricane Fiona
.
As much as 30 inches of rain fell on the island, causing "catastrophic" flooding and damage estimates of $10 billion. As of this morning, 80% of all of Puerto Rico is without power and 778,000 do not have drinking water. Puerto Rico without power is difficult, but adding the complication of no drinking water makes everything exponentially more problematic which is creating an immediate health crisis.
We are traveling with one water filtration unit and a second unit will be coming later in the week. Other team members will be bringing additional kitchen equipment to facilitate our meal services.

First, PLEASE PRAY for the people of Puerto Rico. These will be difficult days with loss of basic infrastructure. Also pray for our team as we work to get our meal and other relief services up and running as soon as possible. Given the conditions on the ground, I'm expecting very difficult logistical challenges, especially in the first few days.
