We are serving lunch and dinner TODAY to Hurricane victims here in Fort Myers at the epicenter of the hurricane strike. Please go here to sponsor 10, 20, 50 or even 100 meals, and see below for more details. --Gary
It's difficult to even describe what we are seeing here in Fort Myers. The Category 4 storm had the impact of a massive tornado sweeping across Florida. Entire communities are decimated. Bridges have been destroyed. The pier is effectively gone. Boats have been thrown across streets along with fallen trees and debris. This is a historic disaster -- a 500-year storm according to Governor DeSantis. As of this morning, nearly 2 million customers are still without power. That means millions will be in the dark tonight and through the weekend and likely beyond.
+ + We are feeding hurricane victims and workers TODAY
As I write, Mercy Chefs is deployed and serving hot, chef-quality meals to Hurricane Ian victims here in Fort Myers. I was working with our team last night as we prepared and handed out the first meals of this deployment.
I am expecting that this will be the largest deployment in our history -- the need is that great! We have been selected as the primary feeders by state officials and are preparing to feed 30,000 meals a day – our largest goal yet, and about twice as many meals as we typically serve during a disaster.
But to meet this need, I need YOUR help!
+ + The people here need our help...
Today we met a gentleman who was gazing across the flood waters at his home that still had water trickling out the front door. He told us he had just minutes to grab a few family photos before the hurricane pummeled his neighborhood. Those photos are still drying in his car. He returned to scavenge for any belongings that may have survived the storm. As he told us about the nightmare of the past 24 hours, his eyes welled up with tears. He’s still trying to make sure his sister who lives nearby is safe.
Mercy Chefs is here and we are serving hurricane victims. In a very real way, we are your hands and feet at the epicenter of Hurricane Ian's devastating strike.
Please pray for the people here. And thanks in advance for your help today through this weekend.
God bless,
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
