The need is growing. We just "adopted" about 200 school kids who need our help. Please see below and go here to sponsor meals for earthquake victims. -- Gary
Saturday Morning:
With the earthquakes continuing, life just can't return to any semblance of "normal" for the people along the southern coast of Puerto Rico.
As I've been sharing with you, thousands simply refuse to return to their homes for fear that the structures will collapse with the next earthquake. At the peak of the strongest quake, the shaking was so bad that you couldn't even walk. And the quakes usually seem to hit in the middle of the night.
+ + How we "adopted" 200 kids this week...
This is why parents are refusing to send their kids to school. The other day, our team learned that about 200 children -- along with many teachers -- just started showing up at a tiny private school during the day. The school itself is only equipped for a few dozen children. So they reached out to Mercy Chefs for help. We immediately "adopted" these kids and began bringing them hot meals and other resources (here's one of our chefs with some of the kids).
As we continue to provide hot meals to "pop-up" tent villages, hard-hit communities and now these 200 children, I could use your help in a special way this weekend.
Perhaps you could go the "extra mile" and make a generous gift of $250 or even $500 that would help feed all these kids for one meal. If the Lord has blessed you financially, a tax-deductible gift of $1,000 would provide two hot meals to all these children.
Of course, every gift will help. I want to ensure that Mercy Chefs can continue to meet this need as long as the people here are still facing the daily shakings of additional earthquakes.
Thank you so much or your faithful partnership with Mercy Chefs as we continue to do everything we can to help those who have been impacted by these earthquakes.
God bless!
Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs
P.S. Here are a few of our volunteers packing up dozens of meals for delivery directly to one of the hard-hit communities. Your generosity makes every meal possible. Thank you so much for helping Mercy Chefs to feed "body and soul".
